Chennai: Health service provider Sankara Nethralaya today said it would set up an academy to offer certificate and fellowship programmes for personnel working in various eye hospitals across the country.

The aim of the programme is to equip ophthalmologists, optometrists, nurses and administration personnel with extra skills, Sankara Nethralaya officials told PTI today.

Stating that the proposed academy would be set up on a one-acre plot in Mahabalipuram, they said the courses will commence in April at Sankara Nethralaya premises in the city.

Courses for ophthalmic theatre assistants, orthoptics, contact lens, hospital management and fellowship programmes in vision therapy and ophthalmology would be offered, they said.

Recently, Sankara Nethralaya had started a two-month Ratan Tata fellowhip programme for ophthalmologists in advance contract surgeries.
