B.Tech. programmes from IIST

The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram, has invited online applications for its national-level entrance test to be held on April 17, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. for admission to the B.Tech. programmes.

The test will consist of two papers covering questions from physics, chemistry and mathematics.

The degree level programmes offered at IIST are B.Tech. in aerospace engineering, avionics and physical sciences.

The B.Tech. course in aerospace engineering focuses on the subjects like mechanical design and manufacturing. B.Tech. degree in avionics focuses on electronics, communication and control. B.Tech. degree in physical science focuses on astronomy, earth science, remote sensing and chemical system. Total intake for these three programmes is 160.

IIST will provide assistanceship to all the students to cover the complete cost of education, boarding, lodging and book grant of Rs.3000 per semester. Medical insurance and medical care will also be provided to the students.

Eligibility: Candidates must have 70 per cent marks in physics, chemistry and mathematics taken together in their Plus Two examination and should have passed 10th standard with 70 per cent marks in aggregate. Those appearing for the final Plus Two examination in March/April 2010 will also be considered.

The applicants must be born on or after October 1, 1985.

Ph.D. programme

Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology has invited applications for admission to its Ph.D. programme starting February 2010 in the areas of aerospace engineering, avionics, chemistry, earth and space sciences, mathematics and physics.

Selection will be based on a written test followed by an interview to be conducted during the third or fourth week of January in Thiruvananthapuram.

Outstation candidates will be paid to and fro sleeper class train fare by shortest route.

Eligibility

Master's degree in the relevant area with first class. However outstanding candidates with Bachelor's degree in engineering with an excellent academic record and aptitude for research may be considered for direct admission to Ph.D. programme. Age: below 28 years as on January 1, 2010. Admission is open only for Indian citizens.

Application forms and other details can be downloaded from the website www.iist.ac.in and duly filled in applications along with attested copies of relevant documents, a demand draft of Rs.250 drawn in favour of Registrar, IIST payable at State Bank Of India, Thiruvananthapuram should be sent to the Administration Officer, IIST, ISRO Post, Thiruvananthapuram – 695022 so as to reach the addresse on or before December 31, 2009.

Ph.D. at BARC

The Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) has invited application for its Ph.D. programme starting September 2010. Selection is based on a valid GATE score 2009/ 2010/ JEST 2010 or a written test followed by an interview. Duration of fellowship is four years.

The fellowship amount is Rs.12,000 per month for the first and second years and Rs.14,000 per month for the subsequent years.

Those having M.Sc. in physics, chemistry, biology or related science subject with minimum of 60 per cent marks in M.Sc. degree as well as B.Sc. degree or BE/ B.Tech. degree with 60 per cent marks in chemical, computer, electrical, electronics, mechanical, metallurgy and instrumentation are eligible to apply.

Apply online through www.hrdbarc.gov.in before January 15, 2010 for BARC written test in science discipline (and register before April 15, 2010 for engineering discipline) to be held at various centres in India including Thiruvananthapuram, Coimbatore, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi.
