The Research Forum of the School of Historical Studies, Madurai Kamaraj University, organised a lecture on ‘Just Losers' by Jaco Schouwenaar, former Principal, Kalsbeek College, The Netherlands. In his lecture, Dr. Jaco gave an overview of the background, the context, the inducement and the course of the European war which had a global impact. He laid stress on the German problem in the late 19th century and traced the historiography of the war. T. S. Thangamuthu, Assistant Professor in Mediaeval History, welcomed the gathering. P.B. Gopalakrishnan, Chairperson, School of Historical Studies, in his presidential address, outlined the causes and results of the First World War and as to how the war was titled the Balance of Power. K. Manivannan proposed a vote of thanks.

A health awareness programme was conducted for women at Vedarpuliankulam village by the Women's Studies Centre of Department of Sociology, Madurai Kamaraj University, in association with Vadamalayan Hospitals. Students from the Department of Sociology staged folk art performances with message on maternity health, nutrition and personal hygiene. A quiz programme on health was conducted by Vadamalayan Hospitals and prizes were distributed.

St. Justin's College of Education organised a State-level seminar on ‘Personality and values in the growth and development of students' in which 125 students and teachers from various schools participated. The seminar was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Vincent Amalraj, Headmaster, St. Mary's Higher Secondary School. Rev. Sr. S. Arulmary, Principal of the college, welcomed the participants. Rev. Fr. Thommairajan, Director, Don Bosco Social College, Dindigul, delivered lectures on ‘self-evaluation,' ‘individual's value,' ‘social value' and ‘alternative evaluation of films.' Rev. Sr. M. Amalorpavam presented a report of the seminar at the valedictory session. J. Esther proposed a vote of thanks.

M.S.S. Wakf Board College lifted the Anna Bathi Trophy in the Madurai Kamaraj University inter-collegiate athletic meet held recently. The trophy has been won by the college for the 23rd year in succession. M. Vigneshwar broke the university record in the triple jump by clearing a distance of 14.57 metres and T. Sudhish in javelin throw by clearing a distance of 59.65 metres. Aliyar, Principal, and management committee members congratulated the students.
