IGNOU, WWF-India starts course on Environmental Law

New Delhi: With rise in cases of environmental disputes, IGNOU today signed an MoU with World Wide Fund (WWF) for Nature for launching a course on the subject from next year.

The university will launch a PG-Diploma in Environmental Law from July next year, its vice chancellor Prof V N Rajashekharan Pillai said.

"The course will be of immense help to professionals and service holders for their further career growth. Freshers can take the course as it has tremendous job prospects in view of the growing environmental disputes," Pillai said.

The WWF has been running such courses for the last few years. Collaboration with IGNOU will help to take the course to more students, WWF-India Secretary General and CEO Ravi Singh said.

The course will deal with all aspects of environmental law and give details on international prospective on the subject.

The Centre for Environmental Law of WWF-India, which serves as a resource centre for research in national context on matters relating to environmental law, will build functional and professional linkages with government agencies and NGOs.

IGNOU will eventually upgrade the course to a degree programme, Pillai said.
