Kolkata: Nopany Institute of Healthcare Studies observed World Disability Day by organising a free, daylong ‘Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Camp’ on its premises on December 6.

Dinesh Trivedi, minister of state, health and family welfare, was the chief guest.  The minister gave away specially-abled free mobility kits.

Industrialist and MD Patton group Sanjay Budhia was the chief guest. Special guests included Suyash Borar, CEO of BM Birla Heart Research Centre, Dr S Upadhyay, vice-president (project) of AMRI Hospital and Rev Father P S P Raju, former Bishop of Kolkata.

The other highlight of the day was the release of the fourth edition of Sankalp, the institute’s annual magazine.

The camp conducted free assessments of patients by qualified physiotherapists and provided them treatment. The free treatment is to continue until patients require it.

The Rotary Club of Calcutta Chowrenghee supported the initiative. They have donated a large number of mobility aids to the camp for free distribution amongst underprivileged patients.

“NIHS feels greatly blessed at being able to present a day of relevance to these differently abled and make a difference to their lives. The support and enthusiasm shown by everyone will propel us further to do something beneficial for the community,” said B K Nopany, chairman of Nopany Foundation.

The minister praised NIHS’ efforts. “The endeavour of NIHS to observe this day goes on to emphasise the role we can play in improving the condition of our less privileged friends. Even one small step goes a long way in improving bettering someone’s life. It is through association and not alienation; we can help them in their quest for a more promising future,” said Trivedi.
