Chennai: Aiming at exploring the potential of nanotechnology for new product development and tapping benefits through its application, the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, Anna University, Tiruchi, has planned to organise a national conference on ‘Recent Trends and Applications of Nanotechnology in Pharmacy and Biology' (NCNPB) on January 21 and 22, 2010.

The Department that offers BTech in Pharmaceutical Technology, M Pharm in Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Analysis, and PhD programme, intends to provide through the conference a common platform for eminent scientists, technologists, government officials and young researchers for discussing their achievements and future directions of research. The focussed audiences for the conference will encompass researchers, faculty and students in the field of pharmacy, nanotechnology, biotechnology, life sciences, engineering and technology, said the conference convenor and Department Head K Ruckmani.

The conference will feature presentation on technical papers pertaining to applications of nanotechnology in pharmacy and biology. The organisers expect the presentations to be in the areas of nanopharmacy, nanobiotechnology, nanomedicine, nano drug delivery, nano drug targeting, nanodevices and nanosensors, nanomagnetism, and nanomaterials – synthesis and characterisation. Only original papers that have not been published so far and are not currently under review for publication elsewhere have been invited for the conference, said Dr. Ruckmani. “We intend to provide an opportunity for the scientists closely related to pharmaceutical nanotechnology to come together and present their original work, share experiences and problems in a warm and stimulating atmosphere.”
