It seems Indian students are all set to leave their mark on the international competition scenario — seven Indian students were amongst the winners of Oracle’s ThinkQuest Competition 2009. The contest included a website competition where teams develop educational websites on topics of their choosing and a narrative competition where teams publish their ideas on topics of global importance using the Oracle platform.

Anmol, a student at Darbari Lal DAV Model School in Delhi, collaborated with team mates in Brazil and the United States to create an online project called “Let’s Rock and Roll,” which was awarded first place in the 15 and Under age division. His project examined the history of rock music and its impact on society. The second place in this division was awarded to students Akhil, Ashirr, and Debargha of Kendriya Vidyalaya Project Sewak (KVS) in Dimapur who created “Book Buddies” along with team members Abdul, Priya, and Rimi. Their project explored the educational value of textbooks and traced the journey of a book from the writer’s mind to the reader’s hand. The team was coached by teacher Saptarshi Majumder. Said R. Jamuda, Commissioner, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, “We are delighted at the outstanding performance of students from the KVS family. We are proud of the performance of our students and coaches.”

Eeshha, a student at Symbiosis School, and Rujuta, a student at Balmohan Vidyamandir in Mumbai, collaborated with students in the US to create “You Be the Change,” which was awarded third place in the 15 and Under age group. The website aims to educate young people about global warming and sustainable living. Said Krishan Dhawan, Managing Director, Oracle India, “ThinkQuest Live brings together a diverse group of talented students, who have developed insightful projects that address critical issues facing our world today.”
Over 2,100 teams from 83 countries participated in the ThinkQuest Competition 2009, which included Australia, Brazil, China, Hungary, India, Pakistan, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Singapore, South Africa, Turkey, and the United States.
