Chennai: The Social Welfare Department along with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will organise a job fair for persons with disabilities on December 15 in Chennai.

Secretary to the Department P.Rama Mohana Rao said that the fair was being organised so as to know what the needs of the industry were. 'We plan to organise such fairs at least once in six months. If we know what companies expect from persons with disabilities, it would be easier to provide them the needed training,' he said.
State Commissioner for the Disabled C.Vijayaraj Kumar said that the Department would soon form teams of specialists to identify suitable jobs for the disabled in C and D categories. Over 250 children with disabilities and their parents participated in the walkathon from Gandhi Statue on the Marina Beach.

SPASTN Director Madhumathi Achuthan said that the walkathon was organised to emphasise the need for protecting the rights of the disabled and remind the government and society of their duties. On Thursday, a 28 feet long cake would be cut by the children of SPASTN to mark 28 years of its service.
