New VC for Dr MGR Medical University

Chennai: Proffesor Mayil Vahanan Natarajan,, was on Tuesday appointed Vice Chancellor of the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University.Surjit Singh Barnala announced his appointment.

An eminent orthopaedic surgeon, Dr Natarajan is at present the head of department of orthopaedic surgery, Madras Medical College and Government General Hospital.

His appointment is for three years from the date of assuming office. Prof Natarajan succeeds Dr K Meer Mustafa Hussain, who retired after attaining the age of superannuation.

Dr Natarajan graduated from the Madras Medical College and got his ortho degree from the same college. He then did his MCh Orth from Liverpool University, UK. He also has a PhD and DSc from Dr MGR Medical University.

He held various positions in the academic bodies and was a recipient of Dr B C Roy National Award. He was awarded Padma Shri in 2007.
