Forest College closed due to students' unrest

Coimbatore: The Forest College in nearby Mettupalayam, attached to Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has been closed indefintely following unrest among students, who have been demanding reservation for them in irect recruitment to the posts of forest range officer.

The college and the hostel have been ordered to close till further orders last night by the university Registrar and  students, who were abstaining from class and examinations, were asked to vacate the rooms, TNAU sources said.

As part of their protest, a group of students had covered their mouth with black cloths on last Saturday and signed a poster affixing thumb impressions with blood the next day. On Monday, a group of students tonsured their head and submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister through the district collector.

Considering the unrest and no (no) improvement in students' action, the registrar ordered the closure of the college until further orders, the sources said.
