IBM enter agreement with 6 engg colleges to set up COE

Chennai: To develop software skills among students, IT major IBM, said that it has entered into an agreement with six engineering colleges of TN for setting up Centre of Excellence (COE).

'Through the collaboration, the company would set up Centre of Excellence, creating an opportunity for students to learn new skill sets on IBM software products, as well as develop world-class business solutions', a company release here said.

The COE were launched at Sona College of Technology, Salem, KLN College of Information Technology, Madurai, Kalasilingam University, Krishnakoivl, RMK College of Engineering, Chennai, Karpagam College of Engineering, Coimbatore and Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore, the release said.

'Increased competitiveness and demand for business and technology skills will require students to develop a unique skill-set never seen before but the supply of such people with the right skills in increasingly inadequate. COE's are an extension of IBM's commitment to nurture skills for the 21st century', IBM India Country-Manager (Academic Initiative) Himanshu Goyal said.

The IT firm would follow a two-pronged approach providing the colleges with access to technologies relevant to the  market and the students would gain first hand experience of the software products.

Through this initiative, IBM would work closely with the colleges, the release said.
