Confusion over appointment of BU registrars

Updated on: Wednesday, November 18, 2009

Bangalore: Confusion prevailed on Monday at Bangalore University's Jnanabharathi campus after vice-chancellor N Prabhu Dev reportedly asked the registrars to report for duty - but only after he gets official communication from the CM's office.

The two registrars were appointed on November 13 for administration and evaluation. G M Krishnan (administration) and M S Talwar (evaluation) reported for duty at 11.30 am. "We received an order from the education department on November 13. As Saturday and Sunday were holidays, we reported for duty on Monday. When we went to meet the V-C, he was in a meeting. After a few hours, he summoned us and said he is yet to receive a communication from the CM's office and not to report for duty on Monday," Krishnan said.

Talwar added, "The CM's office has nothing to do with this as we have already got the communication from the education secretary." He said the V-C wondered how they'd been selected when their names were not even on the shortlist.

"This time, we have a registrar appointed from the teachers' fraternity. So they gathered to welcome us and were disappointed. We submitted the duty report to the V-C in his absence," Talwar explained.

The vice-chancellor was not available for comment.
