5 BE colleges charged for violation of norms

Chennai: CBI charged case against trustees of TN-based engineering colleges and officials of AICTE for violation of norms in giving permission to colleges lacking infrastructure and facilities.

CBI officials had raided Sun College of Engineering & Technology at Nagercoil, PMR Institute of Technology, Adayalampattu, V.K.K. Vijayan Engineering College, Irungattukottai, J.A. Institute of Engineering Technology, Koyambedu and Padmavathi engineering college in Dharmapuri run by these trusts.

Raids were also conducted in the residences of the trust office-bearers. 'These colleges were run in flagrant violation of the AICTE norms and approval to run them was obtained in pursuance of criminal conspiracy, apart from abuse of official position by AICTE officials,' said the press release.

The CBI added that the colleges had shown forged, false and non-existent fixed deposits in the name of the trusts apart from non existent land. They also lacked academic and other infrastructure as prescribed by the AICTE norms, according to the CBI.
