Punjab to set up education and knowledge commission

Chandigarh: In a bid to provide quality education accessible to people across the state, the Punjab government would soon set up an Education and Knowledge Commission.

An assurance to this effect was given by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to a delegation of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad, which called on him here this morning, an official release said.
Responding to their demands regarding implementation of uniform fee structure in universities across the state and to conduct student council elections, Badal assured the delegation that he would soon convene a meeting of all the Vice-Chancellors to resolve these issues.

Badal said that the state government had already taken some 'path breaking decisions' like setting up of Adarsh schools to impart quality education free of cost to bright students.

Besides it has secured two prestigious universities from the Centre, a central university at Bathinda and a world-class university at Amritsar to give a further fillip to the higher education, the CM claimed.

Likewise an IIT at Ropar would also boost the prospects of students who pass out from this prestigious institute in getting better job opportunities. The delegation also raised the issue of capitation fee being charged by private technical institutions for courses like B.Tech, MBA and B.Ed with the Chief Minister and sought that it should be immediately done away.
