Chennai: Due to higher pay scales for the faculty as ordered by AICTE, many self-financing engineering colleges are on the verge of closing down as they face huge loss.

According to Mr Jeppiaar, chairman of the consortium of selffinancing arts, science and engineering colleges, the state government's refusal to increase the fee structure for management quota seats in self-financing engineering colleges  and also the pay hike ordered by the All India Council for Technical Education for all technical institutions to implement recommendations of the sixth pay commission,   has made things difficult to run colleges.

After distributing merit scholarships at St Joseph's Engineering College on Monday, he said that the consortium would soon be writing a letter to the state government for increase in fee structure.
