Engineering scholarship from Vel Tech University

Chennai: Meritorious deserving engineering students can get obtain a waiver of 50 per cent in tuition fees for B.E. or B.Tech courses this year.

An All-India Merit Scholarship under the Mahatma Gandhi National Merit Scholarships scheme offers a 50 per cent tuition waiver for 25 deserving B.E. or B.Tech students for the forth coming this year.

Vel Tech Dr. RR and Dr. SR Technical University in association with The Hindu initiates this scheme. The total value of the scholarship is Rs. 50 lakh.

Students across India having scored a minimum of 85 per cent in aggregate in their Class 12 examinations in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics / Biology are eligible to participate in the scheme. All eligible candidates must write the VelTech All-India Engineering Entrance Examination on May 10. The last date for application is April 30.

Those eligible students not selected for any other scholarships by the university or the government will be listed in the descending order of their marks using a normalisation process.

In the case of all other things being equal, the most deserving candidate in terms of economic conditions would be selected, with female candidates getting preference. Each selected student would receive a scholarship amount of Rs. 2 lakh, which is equivalent to half the tuition fee over four years.

Envisaged by Vel Tech University, It is well -conceived merit-cum-means initiative said N. Ram, Editor-in-Chief, The Hindu and told that The Hindu values education as one of its top editorial priorities and is happy to partner in this scheme.

'Although technical education is available on a large scale in our country, it is yet to reach the deserving students, that is the focus of this scheme' said the university's Vice-Chancellor, Rangarajan Mahalakshmi K.
