Free education scheme launched in MU

Chennai: All 72 departments in the Madras university received circulars, inviting applications from students yearning to avail the free-of-cost studying benefit sent by VC. G Thiruvasagam

Vice Chancellor, Thiruvasagam had announced earlier  that one deserving post graduate student from every department of the university and ten students each from the other 110 colleges coming under the university will be allowed to study free of cost.

'I was a first generation student who sought higher education in my family and I know the hardships that students have to go through,' the vice chancellor said.

Also, the candidate should not seek any other financial aid, the annual income his or her family should not exceed Rs 72,000 and they should not own a house or any land.

'A selection committee will interview the candidates and verify all the supporting documents and review the candidate's eligibility to avail the benefit.

If selected, the candidates tuition fee, as well as his or her boarding and lodging fees will be written off. They will only be required to pay their examination fees,' Thiruvasagam said.
