Kolkata: Symbiosis Institute of Media & Communication in association with Leo District 322B1 (the youth wing of Lion’s Club) organised a plantation drive on Sunday morning at the Lion’s Safari Park, Rabindra Sarovar. The youngsters with a vision to combat global warming conducted this drive.

“The initiative taken is needed given the dangers of global warming, which needs to be checked immediately. We are very glad to see that young students have come forward to fight global warming. We have always supported such acts and shall always do so,” said Lion Kailash Khandelwal, district governor, Lion’s Club.

About 200 students from Loreto Day School, Sealdah, Ballygunge Shiksha Sadaan, Modern High, Loreto House, Loreto College, Ashutosh College, Jadavpur University, St Xavier’s and St James had assembled for planting saplings.

“It’s always nice to be green. For Symbiosis, it’s an endeavour to contribute to the youth and society at large. Tree plantation is a significant act,” said Prof Shyama Dutta, media faculty, Symbiosis Institute of Media & Communication.

The day was concluded by a street play conducted by the Hypokrites. They imparted the very vital message through their act, which left a deep impact on the crowd. Their act signified the importance of correct information in society, and how information is often manipulated and misused.

“It felt good to see so many students joining us in an attempt to make Kolkata a greener city,” said Abhishek Dutta Roy, media student, Symbiosis Institute of Media & Communication.
