Chennai: MU simplifies rules for PhD research scholars through which now students can submit a CD containing the synopsis of their thesis with a hard copy and the status of their thesis will be updated frequently.

Research scholars pursuing PhD at the University of Madras may no longer worry about facing non-responsive officials  and waiting endlessly to know the status of their thesis. Not just that, the process of submitting synopsis and getting clearance from the internal and external examiners will also move at a greater pace for them in the near future.

'We have decided to use technology to speed up the process of getting clearance for the synopsis and update the research scholars on the status of their thesis. It will be mandatory for the PhD students to submit a CD containing the synopsis of their thesis in addition to a hard copy. Guides will be required to give us the e-mail IDs of internal and foreign examiners.
The moment we receive the synopsis, we will download it and send it by e-mail to the examiners. This will reduce the delivery and waiting time for scholars,' vice chancellor G Thiruvasagam said.

Once the synopsis is accepted and the scholar completes the thesis, the university will give them a unique online ID and password. 'The PhD scholars can check the status of their thesis in four stages whether their thesis has been forwarded to the examiners, if it has been evaluated by internal and foreign examiners, the date of viva voce, and finally when the thesis is accepted and doctoral degree is awarded,' Thiruvasagam said.
