PhD at JU just got stricter

Kolkata: PhD candidates who have not qualified for the National Eligibility Test (NET) and State Eligibility Test (SET) will be required to sit for an exam and interview before registering for their programme.
 
The decision was made at a special executive council meeting on Wednesday. Candidates are carrying out research but have yet to complete their programme will have to register again.
 
Jadavpur University has formed two committees to look into research. The research committee will be focus on the department and the candidate’s development, while the doctoral committee will award degrees to the students.

Students will now have to undertake coursework, research and publish papers and journals during their degree.
 
Those who are not able to carry out the research component can withdraw from the degree.
