Ahmedabad: A forecast: Revival of the global economy by December 2012. Doing business on this prospect will be future managers from across the globe on the Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A) campus.

Trajectory of the global economy between January 2008 and December 2012 will be traced and potrayed virtually by students of IIM-A during their flagship competition Mousetrap held at their annual management fest Confluence 2009'.

This year the contest has attracted 600 teams, highest ever registered for the event, with over 60 teams from universities abroad.

The theme of Confluence 2009' is Survive, Sustain and Succeed', keeping in view the current world scenario where the world is recovering from the meltdown.

"We are excited about the overwhelming response we received this year for this competition, especially participation from foreign universities," said Ameya Mahadeshwar, co-ordinator of the event.

Some of the universities from where the teams are participating include Purdue University, US; Keenan Flagler University, US; Cranfield School of Management, UK and Essec School of Management, Paris among others. There is also a rise in the business schools of Asia that have participated.

"On Wednesday, we started with practice rounds and from Thursday we shall begin with the preliminary rounds, that will be held for four days. After this round, top 100 teams will be selected that will take part in the final round," said M Arun, a member of the coordinating team.

"In this competition, each team participates as a company, that will do business in the virtual space that we create. Teams are given capital money that they have to spend. Sector-wise distribution is done, with a brief introduction to the sector, its history and statistics about its behaviour. During the competition, the teams have to do virtual business, choosing the businesses and sectors they want to get into. The market is simulated by the organising team consisting of IIM-A students. The winner is the team that concludes with the biggest market value," said Mahadeshwar.
