An initiative to mentor students

Updated on: Monday, October 19, 2009

How can alumni contribute to their alma mater? Support infrastructure growth in their institutions? Honour their teachers? Guide current batch of students? Many seem to be increasingly considering the third option.

Chronus Corporation is one such company founded by Microsoft and Oracle alumni. It seeks to create a web platform that makes mentoring and counselling accessible, and requires only minimal administration.

Catering to institutes such as University of Washington, North West Entrepreneur Network, Copperstone University Zambia, Indian Institutes of Technology – Madras and Kanpur, SRM University, College of Engineering, Guindy and PSG Tech, the initiative is aimed at putting those seeking guidance in touch with those who are well-placed to give it.

The mentoring includes, practical guidance to students on career, job search and other topics, providing networking opportunities to develop professional contacts and encourage and facilitate entrepreneurship. Interestingly, alumni could also receive guidance on career and other related fields from more experienced mentors.
