IIT-Kharagpur and DRDO collaborates for combined research in Defence

drdoTo achieve self-sufficient in defence technologies through combined research, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Tuesday signed a memorandum of collaboration with IIT-Kharagpur.

DRDO director general Dr S Christopher, who was honoured with the Distinguished Alumnus Award at the IIT campus in West Bengal, signed the memorandum to facilitate research and training in areas of mutual interest by supplementing the resources of both the institutions.

The combined operation between DRDO and IIT Kharagpur proposes a collaborative research and academic programme to meet the futuristic defence technological requirements of the country in select areas of relevance to national defence, a release said.

The combined operation between DRDO and IIT Kharagpur also concentrates on enhancing the quality of human resource by virtue of advanced training and exchange of knowledge.

Temporary areas of collaborative research were materials, information security, cyber physical systems, energy storage devices, life science and underwater vehicles.

The basic and applied research initiatives would be aimed to achieve self-sufficiency in select defence technologies, the release said.

This agreement would also develop the bilateral mobility of students, faculty, resource sharing and researchers between both institutions, it added.
