mumbai universityColleges under Mumbai University will be allowed to increase their seats by five more % if they fulfil all the criteria proposed by the Mumbai university. Previously the Mumbai university had permitted colleges under its affiliation to increase their students intake capacity by 10 percentage in traditional courses and 20 percentage in professional courses last month. The circular from Mumbai University is passed to ensure that no students are left without seats in degree colleges. The Mumbai university had issued the circular on August 10 and interested colleges can apply till the August 14.

"Since the class XII results are good, the government and Mumbai university sought to increase the student intake capacity to admit all students. The colleges, however, should not increase their divisions, not increase work load of teachers and also can not be a liability on the government," said registrar MA Khan.

Those Colleges which have good infrastructure to admit additional students, and the colleges have approved principal, faculty and staff on board and has not been punished by the Mumbai university for any default in the last three years are eligible to apply for this additional intake of students. Colleges also should follow the 75% attendance, and should not have any dues pending with the university, and should follow all the university/government norms, and also depute teachers for assessment work.

"While this criteria will be relaxed for some colleges in the first round in July, this time the university has decided to not allow any relaxation. Last time, college even in-charge principals were given permission, the additional five per cent students intake will be allowed to colleges who have approved principal ," said the official.
