Acceptance fees to be refunded by IIT if candidate give up a seat

iitThis would be the major relief to candidates in terms of admissions, IITs and NITs should refund the acceptance fee after taking minimal processing charges if a student does not admitted in IITs.

According to the present scenario, aspirants have to pay a non-refundable fee of Rs 45,000 for the General Category and Rs 20,000 for the SC/ST category. Now, however, refund will be given to the students if they have surrendered their seat before the admission session starts.

The Ministry has instructed the IITs and NITs to "return the fee after taking minimalistic processing fee" to students who do not get admission for a preferred course, said Smriti Irani.

The Minister's statement was announced after the students who faced the prospects of giving up their tuition fee in this year's central counselling while not taking up the allotted spots.

Meanwhile, the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) had extended the date for the seat acceptance for the fourth round of seat allotment through JEE. The results of the fourth round of seat allotment for admissions to IITs, NITs and other technical institutes that was initially to be announced by JoSAA on July 22 was delayed due to some reasons. The Authority also held a meeting to decide on an exit clause under which a candidate could give up their alloted seat for a better prospect in a different institute.
