The seat allocation for admissions to Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) and National Institutes of Technology (NIT) was announced today. The results OF IIT and NIT have been declared at the official websites of JEE Advanced and JoSAA portal. The summary of the first round of seat allocation as published on the official site is listed below: A total of 1,52,655 (1.52 lakh) students filled-in 1,29,58,458 (1.29 crore) choices for the academic programs offered by 87 institutes comprising of 18 IIT, ISM, 31 NIT, 18 IIITs (Triple-I-Ts) and 18 Other-GFTIs (as of closing time 5:00 pm on July 5).

Based on the category-wise all India ranks in JEE Main 2015 Paper 1 and Paper-2 and JEE Advanced 2015, and preferences exercised by the candidates, seats were allocated for round one using DA algorithm implemented by NIC and IIT Kanpur teams.
Allocations were validated for compliance of all the business rules by the testing and validation teams from IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur and IIT Guwahati. It was found that the allocations comply with all the business rules.

In view of the above, NIC has published the joint seat allocations 2015 for round one on JoSAA portal on July 7 as per schedule. The students who get a seat are required to report to their respective centres for admission to IIT and NIT, if they fail to do so then they will be excluded from the admission process and won't be eligible to participate in the subsequent allotment rounds either.

If the students choose to 'freeze' the IIT or NIT seat then they will not be allowed to make any changes in the following seat allocation rounds, however, if they wish to keep their options open for an upgrade they need to select the 'floating' option. If the students want an course upgrade at the same institute where they were allotted the seat, they will have to choose the sliding option.
