B.Ed Losing Popularity

It is reported that only 100 students has registered online and another 450 took the offline forms on day one of the commencement of the admission process for Bachelor of education course in Gujarat University. The admissions for B.Ed began on Friday.Gujarat University has begun online admissions for the two-year Bachelor of Education course from May 8. They have 10 colleges and a capacity of 5,000 students. The last date for filling forms is May 15.

“There was a 10,000-seat capacity in 10 colleges earlier, but with the two-year bachelor’s course, the workload of professors will also be distributed and the National Council for Teachers' education has decided to reduce the strength to half “ Officials said. There are only 5,000 seats now. The officials also stated that a meeting between principals will be held later next week and the university will decide on increasing the intake of students.

At present, Gujarat University admits 80% of students who graduated before the last academic year. The remaining 20% are fresh graduates. Officials said that there is now a move to increase the intake of fresh students to 50% and older graduates filling up the other 50%. “From the 10,000 seats available, around 3,800 were vacant due to lack of students” officials said. Not many older graduates want admission and these seats were hence empty, the official said.
