Gandhigram Rural University gets new VC

Dindigul: New Vice-Chancellor takes over  charge at Gandhigram Rural University.

Professor S.M. Ramasamy assumed office as Vice-Chancellor of Gandhigram Rural Universtiy, according to university sources.

Starting his career as a geologist in Public Works Department in 1971 and in Geological Survey of India, Rajasthan, later, he became a scientist in Anna University in 1986. After which, he joined as Head, School of Earth Sciences in Bharathidasan University and became Director, Centre for Remote Sensing of the university.

Dr. Ramasamy was also a member of senate and syndicate and was the Dean of College Development Council and Director for Curriculum Development Council and Convenor of Informatics Centre of the university.

He specialised in mineral, hydrocarbon and aquifer habitat mapping, modelling of modern geological processes, natural disaster mapping and mitigation and spatial decision support system for sustainable development.

The Vice-Chancellor received several awards including first Indian Remote Sensing award and Tamil Nadu Scientists awards.
