Science serial on Radio

Madurai: All India Radio has planned to broadcast a science serial on astronomy as this year 2009 being the International Year of Astronomy.

The title of the programme Ellai Illa Vaanam (boundaryless sky) will be aired between 8 p.m. and 8.30 p.m. every Saturday. The first episode starts on Saturday.

The serial would be aired throughout India via 117 stations in 19 languages. Madurai AIR is a nodal station to broadcast this serial in Tamil. Seven stations across Tamil Nadu would relay the programme.

The 30-minute serial, planned by Vigyan Prasar (VP), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, to commemorate the 400th year of the discovery of telescope by Galileo.

Tamil Nadu Science Forum prepares the serial and VP would provide the basic content.  Among the 54 episodes, six episodes would consist of people's queries for which experts on Astronomy would provide answers.

Each episode will have popular questions on Astronomy for which prizes will be given to participants, according Tamil Nadu Science Forum.
