 New Rice type by Tamil Nadu Agricultural University

Tamil Nadu Agricultural University’s Paddy breeding station introduced a new rice variety “CO (n) 51. It is expected to help fairness opt for more economical rice cultivation.  It is a short duration variety. Which needs less water and can be harvested in 105 days?  The rice outcome will be a finer quality.  On an average 3 tonnes of paddy can be produced per acre.

The paddy station of the University has released 55 varieties since 1921. The following details of TNAU.

CO( R) 51          2013     - Short duration type resistant to diseases, high yield

CO ( R) 50         2010     - High yielding variety, sustainable for south west monsoon

CO ( R) 49         2008     - Fine quality, medium slender white rice

CO ( R) 48         2008     - High yielding and moderately resistant to diseases

The paddy growing areas of Tamil Nadu are villupuram, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam & Tanjore of Cauvery Delta, Theni and Vaigai basin and Thirunelveli of Thamirabarani basin.
