Need for Education counsellors

It is the order of the day that a teacher should be a counselor besides his teaching abilities also.  It is obvious that there is a deficiency in the areas of counseling in areas. The union Human Resources Councils for Educational Research and Training (SCERT) to make out a programme to train minimum at least two teachers in each school as counselors. 

According to Tamil Nadu SCERT Director S. Kannappan that eh aim of the project is to convert the education system in to mentoring system.  This awareness is because of aggressive behavior and suicides among students.  If the teacher is serves as a counselor it may be convenient behavior modification.

Observation and guidance and counseling for children for children and adolescence through trained personnel are a vital element in school education.

The teachers will be trained by  a state level bureau consisting of teachers, principals and clinical psychologists.  From the available sources that the approach is mainly for students of IX and X.  The state Government is in the process of putting into 10 mobile counseling centres for school children.  It is understood by the experts the students in IX and X are in constant conflict with their age.  It was found by the teachers that it is most difficult to handle as they have a lot of complex issues.  They involve in the concept of love they have issues managing their anger and often lack of time management skills.  They have lot of academic stress also.

Dr. B.S Virudhagirinathan, the clinical psychologists send that with the increasing strength, teachers are unable to pay individual attention.  This vacuum has to be filled by counselor.
