The International Institute of Information and Technology (IIIT), Bhubaneswar will soon be accorded unitary university status with the passing of IIIT-Bhubaneswar Bill-2013 in the Odisha Assembly.

The Bill, passed last night, has provisions saying that the university will work closely with the government, industry and other users of technology to develop and deliver technological solutions to enhance their service delivery.

The university will be committed to the entire value chain of knowledge creation, diffusion and preservation to meet the challenges of the century.

It will create a community of students, faculty and scholars with passion for learning, creativity, innovation in all aspects of academic pursuit, the bill stated.

The varsity status to IIIT will also help it design its own academic curriculum and admission process.

Academicians, however, feel that the tag will enable the premier institute to innovate and pursue its objectives with devotion and diligence without depending on any other state-run bodies.

In 2007-08, the institute started imparting education in M.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering programme while the B.Tech programme in four disciplines started in the year 2009-10 with approval of AICTE and affiliation of Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT).
