The Allahabad high court cancelled the recognition of five BEd colleges of east UP affiliated to Gorakhpur University, Observing that education must be left pure and should not be permitted to be corrupted by the use of money.
The cancellation would come into effect from 2014-2015.

These five BEd colleges are Vidyarthi Degree College, Kushinagar, Veer Bahadur Singh Degree College, Gorakhpur, Prabha Devi Degree College, Sant Kabir Nagar, Chaudhari Mahaveer Degree College, Siddharthnagar and Kisan Degree College, Kushinagar.

Justice Arun Tandon said, "All the colleges have violated the terms and conditions of the recognition letter. They have also violated the mandatory requirements of regulations under the National Council of Teachers Education (NCTE) on minimum 180 days of teaching to be imparted before conducting the examination."

It is also alleged that these colleges granted admission to more than sanctioned seats through the backdoor after getting illegal benefits.

Disposing off the writ petition filed by Nutan Shukla, the court directed the state authorities to proceed with the investigation in terms of the FIR lodged against wrong-doings committed in the aforesaid colleges.
