New Delhi: With a view to train teachers on latest technologies used in classroom delivery of education, the Indira Gandhi National Open University has launched a Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Technology (PGDET).

'In the context of changing education scenario, teachers must themselves be able to handle newage innovative ICTs for delivery of education,' said Sutapa Bose, co-ordinator of the programme run by the IGNOU School of Education.

The programme aims for a shift from the conventional chalk and talk teaching to ICT-mediated pedagogy, he said. Pro-Vice Chancellor K R Srivathsan, a veteran scientist at Information and Comminication Technologies (ICTs), said, 'Teachers must be supported by online course content and collaborative facilities to engage their students and benefit from the web resources.'

According to him, the programme facilitates those engaged in educational administration to effectively manage ICT mediated delivery of instructions and also help in sensitising the general public, especially parents, about the new domains of technologies used in teaching.
