The Delhi government was directed to file response on a PIL seeking a direction for appointment of a competent authority to grant no-objection or minority status to the educational institutions here as per law.

A bench of acting Chief Justice B D Ahmed and Justice Vibhu Bakhru issued a notice to Delhi government and sought a reply by October 9 on a PIL filed by Atyab Siddiqui, an advocate, seeking a direction to appoint a competent authority to grant minority status certificate for the establishment of minority educational institution and for adjudicating their status as a minority institution.

Claiming that he got the information through RTI application, the petitioner said the Chairman of National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions is the competent authority under the National Commission for Minority Educational Insitutions Act.

The petitioner said "because there is no competent authority which has been notified by the state of Delhi is causing manifold trouble to the educational requirements of the minorities...," the plea said and sought for immediate appointment of the competent authority.
