We are many many years late in education reforms: Sibal

New Delhi: For renowned lawyer Kapil Sibal, bringing about reforms in education is equally a challenging task as fighting tough legal battles in courts.

'I am fighting a very strong case of HRD...I used to fight difficult battles in court and I am fighting equally difficult battles here (HRD Ministry) also,' said the HRD Minister, who has initiated significant reforms in the education system.

'If I want to reform education sector I do not think there is a better time, a better place than today,' he said.   When pointed out that he seemed to be in a 'hurry' as he had initiated a number of reformatory steps, he disagreed and said "what I am doing now should have been done yesterday. We are many many years too late. This is the genesis of the reform process that I wished to undertake.'

Queried about the differences he found in himself as a lawyer and as a minister, he quipped 'I think the battles in courts were more difficult possibly because the cases there were very weak.'
