MCI announces 1390 more seats in 32 medical colleges across the country

After the Medical Council of India announced that 1390 more seats would be created in 32 medical colleges across the country with the State of Tamil Nadu getting 410 more seats, this has added cheer to the young aspiring doctors in the state.

For the state of TN, the MCI sanctioned additional seats in five existing colleges and a new medical college adding to the previous years number of seats.    

According to the communication received by the state, the MCI had sanctioned 25 extra seats for the Government Medical College, Salem and 50 seats each for KAP. Vishwanathan Government Medical College, Trichy and Government Medical College, Tuticorin.

These seats will be included in the second phase of Medical counseling to commence on August 5. In Tamil Nadu, totally, 2172 seat are available after excluding All India Quota.

The delight is that all these seat are in addition to the earlier sanctioned 285 seats in June

With this, the total number of seats across the country would go up to 46,500. There are 362 medical colleges with over 45,000 MBBS seats.

Though the scheme was for both private and government medical colleges, the Health Ministry issued a clarification keeping private colleges out of its purview.

Those medical colleges with an intake of 50 seats at present will be allowed to admit 100 and those with 100 capacity now will be permitted to take in 150, as per the scheme.

At least 10 government colleges that did not fulfil criteria were not allowed extra seats.
