A Survey about languages is conducted by Peoples Linguistic Survey of India. It blames English, since its increased use in normal and official situations spoils the Tamil Nadu languages. Because of this, the report says that most of 20 languages, 17 of which are tribal are at the edge of disappearance.

The different languages spoken are Saurastra, Thanjavur Marathi, BettaKurumba, Evavalla, Malayali, Kanikkaran, Kattunaick, Kulimala, Kota, Muduva, Mullukurumba, Pacha Malai Malayali,Palukurumba, Toda, Urali, Vagri Boli and Valiyan.

The research was done by Prof. Rangan in association with Prof V. Gnana sundaram.  They identity one important issue that the present new generation simply understands these languages but not able to speak at all.

Dr. G.N. Devy, the PLSI Chairman released the survey and ruled that people who spoke regional languages had learnt to expect the migration of smaller language communities into their fold as a result of development.
