World Tourism Week function at BHU

Varanasi: The department of history of art and tourism, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), organised a programme at Rajiv Gandhi South Campus Barkacha in Mirzapur district to celebrate World Tourism Week on Tuesday.

Addressing the function, senior tourist guide TK Basu highlighted the contribution of tourism sector to the country's economy and advocated for better facilities to this sector. In her welcome speech, head of the department RK Agrawal also spoke about the importance of tourism. BHU V-C DP Singh appreciated the efforts of the department and said that tourism management was a multi-faculty subject.

Award to BHU teacher: Dr Padnabh Dwivedi, reader in the department of plant pathology, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, BHU, has been awarded with Prof YS Murt Medal of the Indian Botanical Society for his research contribution to the field of plant science. According to the university spokesperson, the award would be presented to him during the 32nd annual conference of the Indian Botanical Society to be held in Kuvempu University, Shankaraghatta, Karnataka from December 28 to 30.
