Madras University on Heritage Short list

 The vice chancellor of University of Madras R. Thandavan expressed that Madras University was short listed for heritage status under a scheme of the Ministry of Human Resources and Development.  The university of Madras along with its Mumbai and Calcutta universities are more than 150 years old and as such the universities of Madras, Mumbai and Calcutta are under heritage list.  The confirmation of this statement is yet to be released from University Grants Commission.  If it is so, a special annual grant of 5 crore will be allotted to these universitites.  Besides the universities would enjoy special previlages like waiver of regulations in matters of governance like  appointment of staff to the university such as head, faculty, teachers and staff.
