BAI launches the Indian Badminton League School Programme

For students in Mumbai, monsoon points to reopening of schools, new books, new teachers and beginning of another academic year. However, this year, students in the city are getting an opportunity to welcome the academic session in a different way. The Badminton Association of India (BAI), in an effort to promote badminton amongst school children, has launched the Indian Badminton League School Programme (IBLSP) to scout talent through an intra-school competition called Shuttle Express.

The competition which will be held from July 12-14, will be held in partnership with six schools from six cities — Genesis Global School, Expressway (Delhi NCR), Indus World School (Hyderabad), La Martiniere Boys (Lucknow), Jamnabai Narsee, (Mumbai), Symbiosis Primary and Secondary School (Pune) and Jain International School (Bangalore).

In its first year the League will be held in Mumbai’s Jamnabai Narsee School. Winners of League will receive the prize money of Rs 10 lakh and an opportunity to train at the world-class P Gopichand Academy.

The format of the matches will be a three-phase intraschool tournament. Winners from schools will come and play at La Martiniere Boys School.

    National finals will be held from August 28-31, in Mumbai
    Finals will be telecast LIVE on television > Tournament is open for boys and girls between 11-15 years of age
    The programme will promote the sport in over 120 schools in six cities
    Badminton clinics in six cities by Pullela Gopichand, Saina Nehwal, Jwala Gutta, Ashwini Ponnappa, P Kashyap PV Sindhu
