Autonomy to selected aided colleges facing opposition

Updated on: Friday, May 17, 2013

The pro Left Association of Kerala Government Teachers (AKGCT) and All Kerala Private College Teachers Association have flayed the Congress led UDF government's move to grant autonomy to selected aided colleges.

In a joint statement here, the organisations said the move would subvert the public higher education system in the state and result in the removal of students from poor families in colleges.

Autonomous colleges would result in commercialisation of the higher education system and fall in educational standards. The government should take steps to ensure quality in higher education, the statement said.
