            It is interesting to note received from the Environmentalists regarding the historical evidence that Chola Emperor Raja Raja Chola used the stones from hillocks ant Irur in Perambalur district to build the world famous prestigious temple of Tamil Nadu which is located at Tanjore known as “Big Temple” or Brahadeeswara Temple.

             The stones available in this area are greenish in colour and have good strength comparatively with blue metal. Since they have granite base, they were used as building materials as well as to make artificial sand. According to the recent survey, the continued quarrying in these hills may not good for ecology.
