State strives to promote higher education

Tuticorin: The newly initiated V.O. Chidambaranar College of Engineering was jointly inaugurated by K. Ponmudy, Minister for Higher Education and Pro Chancellor, Anna University, Tirunelveli here on Tuesday.
 
Speaking on the occasion the minister stated that the Tamil Nadu Government was taking efforts to promote higher education. Universities should evolve proper strategy and devise apt syllabi to meet the needs of the industry. Competition between private and government engineering colleges should be considered as a sign of healthy contest to provide quality education.

He said educational system has to be more innovative. The college offers B.E. Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering and in due course other branches of study would be introduced. He said that infrastructure of the new college would be completed within a year.

' This Government Engineering College in the region will help students immensely,' said Minister for Social Welfare P. Geetha Jeevan.
