J&K authorities order closure of schools due to threat of tremore and aftershocks

With a series of quakes in last one week in Doda and adjoining areas, the Authorities today ordered closure of schools in the district due to threat of tremors and its aftershocks.

The education institutions including private schools have been closed till May 10 due to threat of aftershocks, official of Education department said.

Authorities had closed all educational institutions after the earthquake shook Bhaderwah and adjoining areas of Doda district on May 1.

There were 21 tremors in Bhaderwah-Doda-Kishtwar belt during over a week with maximum 11 on May 1.

While one tremor was struk in Bhadwerwah on April 31, 11 on May 1, 3 on May 2 and 1 on May 3, whereas, 1 was reported on May 5 and 2 each on May 6 and 8.

Two persons, including shepherd, were killed and 69 others injured, including 26 students and three teachers when scores of buildings were damaged due to repeated tremors that shook in Doda and Kishtwar districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

A tremor measuring 5.8 on the richter scale was recorded at 12.27 PM and subsequent 10 aftershocks continued till 3.02 PM on May 1 in the state, particularly twin districts of Kishtwar and Doda.
