Labour department to introduce Additional Skill enhancement programme for employable youths

The Kerala state Labour department has drawn out a plan to turn employment exchanges into employability centres by introducing the proposed Additional Skill Enhancement Programme (ASEP).

The project proposed to convert employment exchanges into employment generation centres, Labour Minister Shibu Baby John said in an official release here.

The centres were being established to change the face of existing employment exchanges meant for registering the names of the unemployed youth to skill development centres.

The youth would be equipped to get employment from these centres after undergoing psychometric test to find out their abilities and limitations.

They would be given expert training in communication skills and language. Employabilty centres would also conduct job fairs to open up employment opportunities to the youth in public and private sector establishments.

The centres would be started in all employment exchanges in the state in a phased manner after its introduction in Ernakulam, Kollam and Kozhikode districts, the minister said.
