Govt to conduct competition in schools on YSR's life

Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government today decided to conduct essay writing, songs writing and painting competitions on the life of late Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.

The competitions will be conducted at the school-level and district-level, School Education Minister D Manikya Vara Prasad told reporters.

The award-winning works at the district-level will be compiled and they will be dedicated to the memory of Rajasekhara Reddy, he said.

Sports meet would be also conducted in the districts and at the state-level, Prasad said.  The 'Madhyamik Sikhsha Abhiyan' in the state will be named after the late Chief Minister, he said.

Rajasekhara Reddy had brought out various revolutionary measures in school education in the state like setting up of 6,500 special 'success' schools, introducing CBSE and English medium education in government schools and laid the foundation for introducing 'Grading System' in 10th class board examinations, the Minister recalled.

Reddy had also taken several decisions that benefited government school teachers, he said.
