Meghalaya identifies 400 schools to build awareness about earthquake among students and teachers

Meghalaya have identified 400 schools where awareness programmes to be held to build awareness about earthquake among students and teachers.

Two hundred schools in each of Ri-Bhoi and East Garo Hills districts have been identified for the purpose, Meghalaya Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) Executive Officer, H B Marak told PTI on the sideline of a two-day state level workshop under National School Safety Program held here.

He said, under the Rs 1.5 crore project funded by Centre’s National Disaster Management Society, disaster management teams will conduct inspection in these schools to ensure that there is proper entrance and exit gates in the schools and safety instructions would be issued to the school authorities.

As part of the program, 200 teachers will be given master trainer trainings on both structural and non-structural measures outside the state.

Meghalaya and the rest of north eastern states fall under seismic Zone V, identified as highly prone to seismic activities, in the earthquake map of the country.
