HP government to extend the period of dissolution of four private universities in the state

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh introduced four amendment bills in the Assembly seeking to extend the period of dissolution of four private universities in the state from 25 years to 40 years.

Singh, who also holds the education portfolio, introduced the bills to amend acts in respect to Chitkara, Sri Sai, Eternal and Chartard Financial Analysis Universities in the state.

According to the amendment clause, in case the sponsoring body dissolves the universities before 40 years of its establishment then all its assets will go to the government.

The bills have been introduced in the backdrop of row over permission granted to large number of private universities to set up campuses in Himachal Pradesh and land purchased by them.

Himachal Pradesh has 15 private universities, most of these set-up during previous BJP regime.
