International summer school from Jamia Millia Islamia University and ministry of tourism

Jamia Millia Islamia University is all set to hold an international summer school from June 16-July 26. A six-week long programme, in collaboration with the ministry of tourism, will comprise two components. For the first four weeks, students will study Indian political science, Indian history, Indian sociology and Indian economics. It will be supplemented by seminars where students will watch documentaries , films and interact with experts.

Nisar-Ul-Haq , coordinator, department of tourism, Jamia Millia Islamia, said, "India has a rich culture and we want to promote that. In this globalised world, there is a need to understand each other. Through this programme, we hope to instill an appreciation among participants about India and its role in the 21Century." 

Students will also get to learn beginner's level Hindi. Also, students will go for trips to Agra, Jaipur, etc, apart from volunteering with Ritanjali, an NGO, which works on community development.

The programme (http:// issnewdelhi.in/index.php) is open to all and universities can nominate their students to participate in the programme. Haq adds that the university is instituting a scholarship for students. The Ritinjali-ISS scholarship, which will be awarded to those with an exceptional academic record and have demonstrated the ability to understand and respect different cultures.

Indian nationals under the age of 25 years can apply for the programme and should attend the entire sixweek programme. Admissions are on and there are 70 seats for the programme.

The scholarship will cover the entire programme fee for the six-week programme on the basis of applications received by the ISS through its online application process. "We have made arrangements for the students at our hostel," concludes Haq.
